Quotes and Input
At her CD release party for “The Frame” in January of 2023, Andrea Prichett established the depth and variety of her original tunes that surely defy the constraints of her previous “folk” label. Sure, she will perform acoustic tunes that feature her rich, resonant alto voice and songwriting that helped to make her previous band, “Rebecca Riots” nationally known for its “fresh radical folk” sound. But last January, right here at The Freight, Andrea played to a full house with a powerhouse band made up of some of the finest musicians in the Bay Area. (Shelley Doty on lead guitar, Lisa Zeiler on rhythm guitar, Kasey Knudsen on sax, Marina Garza on trumpet and Deborah Hungerford on piano and keys. Michaella Goerlitz will provide percussion and drums. Isaac Coyle on bass and Irene Sazar will be joining with violin, too! ) Yes, Green Huse and Maggie Forti did provide backing vocals!
- The Freight & Salvage
Andrea Prichett's new offering, The Frame is a delight. The overall songwriting and musicianship is altogether impressive. Gorgeous harmonies are a thread throughout and unexpected arrangements draw you in to listen over again to unique transitions, as in the title song, The Frame.
The opening track, The Avenue, features the tasteful drumming that is evident throughout the album. The drums seem to drive the track Heaven, Earth and Me. Andreas lyrics in the ballads Looking to You for Home and Mama Learned to Pray, both paint a picture, within the fold of Andreas smooth, haunting, expressive vocals. The album's variety is demonstrated in the blues shuffle with classic cuts/stops where the band seems to channel Susan Tedeschi, while Line in The Sand conjures an Indigo Girls sound and political sensibility. Good company indeed. And if you're looking for an inspirational hook that's, “When The Ohm Comes In”.
Sometimes Americana, sometimes more of a soul or even R&B sound, expect tender love songs, upbeat political/ topical tunes and some raucous anthems. Some new tunes, some covers and some songs from BACK IN THE DAY (Rebecca Riots). This evening of music and stories from one of Berkeley’s own will be a night to remember.
